In 2016, NVCA and Deloitte conducted a survey to better understand the demographic breakdown of VC firms. Although the published data didn’t drill down to determine the amount of Latinas in VC, they found:

  • While women are 45% of the total VC workforce, they are only 15% of investment professional roles.
  • Women are only 11% of investment partners.
  • Latinx employees represent only 4% of the venture workforce.
  • 2% of partners are Latinx.

The numbers of Latinx in VC is small, but we know it’s growing. Inspired by Sydney Thomas post highlighting the black women in VC, Jomayra Herrera and I wanted to share some of the bright spots of Latinas working in the industry. This list is by no means comprehensive, but we wanted to start a spreadsheet that we can continue to add to.

For the purpose of this list, we focused on Latinas working within the investment team in firms currently deploying capital. That said, we know that Latinas are working in a variety of roles in venture, including operations.

Similar to Sydney, we hope this list can be particularly helpful for:

- Startups building boards

- VCs adding new GPs or Venture Partners

- Conference Organizers developing rosters of panelists and keynote speakers

- Latinas who are looking for a community of other Latinas working in the industry

We are excited to see this list continue to grow. If we missed anyone, please shoot us an email at maria@unshackledvc.com and jomayraherrera@gmail.com.

Thank you to those whose previous lists helped inform ours: carolina huaranca, Eutiquio Chapa, Ramphis Castro, Mandela Schumacher-Hodge.
